A new line of screw-terminal aluminium electrolytic capacitors from Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. enables designers to cram more energy storage into a smaller footprint. The Vishay BCcomponents 202 PML-ST series, available in 11 case sizes ranging from 35mm x 60mm to 90mm x 220mm, offers higher capacitance/voltage (CV) values in smaller case sizes than previous-generation solutions while also supplying higher ripple current up to 49.6A, lower ESR down to 2mOhm, and a lengthy useful life of 10 000h at +85C.
The electrolytic capacitors offer high CV combinations from 56000F at 200V to 15000F at 450V, and they do so in a cylindrical aluminium box that is insulated with a blue sleeve and pressure relief in their sealing disc. With instance, a 50mm × 105mm case size is now available for a CV rating of 2200F/400V, which was previously only available in the 65mm x 105mm case size. The capacitors provide better ripple current and ESR for CV ratings with similar case sizes to solutions from earlier generations. For instance, a CV rating of 4700F/400V delivers 16% less ESR and 12% more ripple current. The RoHS-compliant devices, which are polarised aluminium electrolytic capacitors with a non-solid electrolyte and a specified lifetime of 10 to 15 years, are perfect for filtering, buffering, and energy storage in pulsed power applications. Industrial motor drives, HVAC, UPS, rail traction for buses and trains, medical X-ray equipment, wind turbines, and solar power inverters are examples of typical end products.
