The XCL232 is a new inductor series with an integrated step-down DC-DC converter from Torex Semiconductor. The XCL233 Series is a 150mA step-down synchronous rectification’micro DC-DC’ converter with a selectable output voltage function, an ultra-low power consumption circuit, and PFM control. The VSET function allows for the signal-independent switching between two output voltages. This feature offers low voltage during standby and high voltage during operations like sensor communication to efficiently operate devices when installed on a low-power MCU with a wide operational voltage range. Small appliances’ battery life is significantly increased.
By using PFM control method and ultra-low power consumption circuits with 200nA consumption current, efficiency performance at a light load current is significantly enhanced. The efficiency of the output current range (several A to 10 A) during sleep and the power consumption of an MCU and SoC in particular are crucial for battery life. Traditional DC-DC converters have an efficiency of less than 20%, whereas the efficiency of the series has increased dramatically to more than 80%. Additionally, a low output voltage starting at 0.5V may be chosen, which makes it ideal for low-voltage SoC. By attaching two small ceramic capacitors externally, it is feasible to achieve ultra-compact, high efficiency from a light load, and low EMI by integrating control IC and coil, making it simple for customers to design. The series is appropriate for IoT, mobile, and wearable devices, and any gadgets that demand a longer lifespan with a smaller design and good performance at a low load current are crucial.
